The Institute of multilingualism compiled a structured bibliography on the characteristics of foreign language teaching in Swiss schools for the project ‘Review of the Foreign Language Concept in Primary and Secondary Schools in Basel-Landschaft’. In particular, publications from 2011–2025 were considered, focusing on the following aspects of foreign language teaching:

  1. Pupils: motivation, interest, abilities, competences, performance, socio-demographic/socio-economic background, language and identity, etc.

  2. Teachers: qualifications, motivation, professional development, etc.

  3. The class and school

  4. The teaching: methodology, didactics, learning objectives, teaching materials, duration/number of hours, implementation of exchange programmes, immersion, continuity when moving between school levels, etc.

Purpose – Expected results

The compiled bibliography, comprising 325 entries, served as the basis for further academic studies within the framework of the project ‘Review of the Foreign Language Concept in Primary and Secondary Schools in Basel-Landschaft’.
